Art Students Published
Four HHS art students have their work published in the Spring 2010 Issue of The Marble Collecttion, the Massachusetts High School Magazine of the Arts. Ramsey Musk's work is featured on the cover. Eric Walther's photograph is on page 8. Steven Cutillo's photograph is on page 39 and Ariel Colby's work is on page 40. View the spring issue here.

Art Students Recognized in NOAA Marine Art Contest
Three HHS art stduents were recognized in th 2010 NOAA Marine Art Contest.
Brittany Lopez was awarded Second Place for her scientific illustration of a piping plover. Bri Meehan received Honorable Mention for her drawing of a puffin. Alison Donovan received Honorable Mention for her codfish collage.
Hyannis Sound
Hyannis Sound performed on Wednesday, June 9 in the Harwich High School auditorium.
The HHS Select Choir opened the program.

Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 13.
Spring Concert - Thursday, May 27, 2010
The annual Spring Concert was held on May 27. Selections were performed by the Concert Band, Women's Choir, Select Choir, and the Full Chorus. Jeff Strome performed a Viola Solo, Cello Suite No. 1 Minuet l/2 Gigue by J.S. Bach, and received a standing ovation.

Senior Arts Night - Tuesday, May 18, 2010
The seventh annual "Senior Arts Night" was held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Harwich Port.
The concert was held
at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 533 Main Street.

Sue Williams (left) and Laura Smith at a reception held at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis.
As part of the Cape Cod Museum of Art's School-to-Careers Art Internship Program, Harwich High School art student, Laura Smith, interned with Sue Williams of Barn Hill Pottery in Chatham. Laura worked with Sue for eight weeeks in her ceramic studio. Laura's piece, currently on exhibit at the museum, is a fish themed fountain that she created as a result of Sue asking her to "think like a fish". Each fish was thrown on the wheel and then reshaped
.
Sue often offers employment at Barn Hill Pottery to her interns and hopes that she and Laura will continue their working relationship beyond the internship.
The opening reception for the 13th Annual Art Work Exhibition was held on May 13th. The show runs through May 30 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art on Route 6a in Dennis.
Art Students Win Awards
Eric Walther (junior) was awarded First Place and Colton Ellison (senior) was awarded Honorable Mention in Photography as part of the
"Congressional Art Competition" sponsored by U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt. Over one hundred students from nineteen different communities in the Tenth District participated. An exhibition was held at the Duxbury Art Complex, April 14 - 18, 2010. Both students are enrolled in an independent study photography class with art teacher, Deb Donovan.

Art Students Honored by Chatham VFW
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary sponsors a National Student Contest that includes art and writing.
Eight students from Ms. Biron's Studio Class participated and four (Max Burns, Ramsey Musk, Ariel Colby, Alesia Gleason) received invitations to attend the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 8607 Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy, and Creative Art Awards Banquet & Ceremony held on Thursday, March 25th. Ramsey Musk, Max Burns and Liane Biron attended. and Mr. Franz, a Harwich parent and VFW member spoke at the event which was a great opportunity to socialize with students from Chatham, Cape Tech, and Harwich High Schools. The artwork was judged for its' originality, presentation and patriotism expressed.

All State Music Festival
Two seniors participated in the Massachusetts Music Educators' Association All State Musical Festival March 18 - 20, 2010 in Boston. They were members of a select group of about a dozen Cape and Islands students who received high enough scores in Southeast auditions to audition for All State. Jeff Strome (viola) and Joe Malone (bass) performed at Symphony Hall in the closing concert.
Jeff was seated third chair in the Festival Orchestra conducted by Jung-Ho Pak,
Conductor of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.
